Central American Wildlife Odyssey Cruise

Pura vida! Explore the green heart of Central America on this 11 day cruise and wildlife odyssey

The diversity of wildlife and the untouched state of the natural parks in Costa Rica and Panama make them justifiably the envy of countries ten times their size.

With cloud forests and volcanoes, lush jungles and coral reefs our voyage takes us on a journey of discovery and experience through the green heartland of Central America.

Experience the wonders of Central America's fauna

Travelling on board the versatile MV Sea Voyager we voyage through the Panama Canal to explore a natural wonderland from both above and below the water.

Through the Panama Canal
Beginning in Panama – one of Latin America’s least explored treasures – we transit down through the Panama Canal, a journey that will thrill us as much for its botanical majesty as a sense of historical significance.

The Panama Canal Experience the traditions and cultures of Central America

Visiting Panama’s Barro Colorado Island, we will hopefully see crested guans, slaty–tailed trogons, white-whiskered puffbirds and a variety of monkeys, before crossing through the canal which can be especially evocative when the canal is dramatically lit by night. You will marvel as you watch the locks lower the Sea Voyager by 85 feet to sea level, while 'mules' hold the ship in place.

Reefs and Rainforests
Making full use of our Zodiacs and kayaks, we will explore the cluster of islands that occupy the Gulf of Panama. Once the home to pearl divers and pirates, these islands are now the domain of large numbers of nesting seabirds, such as frigates, brown pelicans and the blue-footed boobies of Galapagos fame.

A pair of capuchin monkeys

With our expert naturalists to accompany us we will make the best possible use of our time here. We also visit the amazing marine reserve of Isla Coiba, where we can explore the coral reefs in the company of our undersea specialist, swimming with sea turtles or some of the 69 species of fish, including, if we are lucky, the rare bifin spazus which can weigh up to 300 pounds.

Flora and Fauna
In Costa Rica we explore the forested bays of Golfo Dulce, roam amongst a profusion of orchids and anchor off the remote Osa Peninsula, where we will visit the unspoilt Corcovado National Park, one of the fi nest in all Costa Rica.

Experience Central America's amazing bio-diversity Experience Central America's amazing bio-diversity

Then it is on to the Manuel Antonio National Park, famed for its abundant bird and wildlife including three toed sloth, white-throated capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys and anteaters, as well as bare-throated tiger heron, orange chinned parakeet and the American pygmy kingfisher, the smallest kingfisher on the continent.

Between excursions and time on board, there will also be plenty of opportunity to try snorkelling and horse riding, stroll along white sandy beaches as the ocean laps your toes, or just swim and relax and watch this lost world float by.
